Our Founder Dr. David Kay, DO
With more than a decade of clinical experience, Dr. David Kay, DO, combines advanced wound care expertise with specialized training.
As a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Kay embraces a whole-person approach to care. Dr. Kay founded West Coast Wound and Skin Care to provide better care for those in need.
All too often, patients get trapped in a cycle of having to go to a care center, again and again, with outcomes that rarely improve. Dr. Kay began this company for those patients and many others, so that he could heal wounds through caring.
Medical Education & Elite Residency Training
The quality of wound care begins with a strong medical foundation. Dr. Kay’s educational background reflects years of rigorous training focused on patient-centered medicine and compassionate, comprehensive care.

Founder and CEO, Dr. David Kay is committed to bringing the highest quality care to you. David is fellowship trained in Geriatric Medicine and Palliative and Hospice care at the world renown UCLA Medical Center. His vision is to alleviate the challenges that arise with elder care by providing clinical services that are both effective and convenient for the patient and facility.
Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Education
Dr. David Kay earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Western University of Health Sciences – College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. He attended medical school from 2010 through 2014, receiving extensive education in both traditional medical sciences and the osteopathic philosophy of treating the whole person.
The osteopathic approach emphasizes the interconnected nature of body systems and encourages physicians to evaluate how overall health influences individual conditions. This philosophy aligns closely with modern wound care, where successful treatment often depends on addressing systemic factors that affect tissue healing.
Family Medicine Residency Training
Following medical school, Dr. Kay completed his Family Medicine Residency at Dignity Health Northridge Hospital Medical Center from 2014 through 2017.
Family medicine residency provides broad clinical exposure across multiple specialties and patient populations. This training taught Dr. Kay to recognize how chronic diseases, medications, cardiovascular conditions, endocrine disorders, and lifestyle factors influence patient outcomes.
For wound care patients, this diverse clinical background offers significant advantages. Chronic wounds frequently involve complex medical histories that require careful evaluation and coordination. Dr. Kay’s residency training helps him assess these interconnected factors while developing individualized treatment strategies.

Strong hospital affiliations help support continuity of care for patients who require services across multiple healthcare settings. Dr. Kay maintains active affiliations with several respected hospitals throughout Southern California.

Coordinated Care Across Healthcare Settings
Dr. Kay began West Coast Wound & Skin Care with an understanding that patients with chronic wounds frequently receive care from several healthcare professionals. They may work with primary care physicians, specialists, hospital teams, rehabilitation providers, and wound care professionals throughout their treatment journey.
By maintaining strong professional relationships within the healthcare community, Dr. Kay built our care model to help ensure that treatment plans remain consistent and focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for patients.

Expertise in Managing Chronic Health Conditions
Dr. Kay built West Coast Wound and Skin Care to be able to treat numerous conditions that can affect wound healing outcomes, including:
- Hypertension and high blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Heart failure
- Chronic disease management
- Age-related health concerns
- Skin ailments affecting older adults
- Mobility-related complications
Because chronic wounds are often connected to broader medical conditions, experience managing these health issues plays an important role in developing effective treatment strategies.
Insurance & Patient Care Information for Wound Care Services
Since the very beginning, Dr. Kay has always believed that access to specialized care should be as straightforward as possible. At West Coast Wound and Skin Care, we work with a variety of major insurance providers to help patients receive the wound care services they need.
West Coast Wound and Skin Care accepts a range of insurance plans, including Medicare, Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross, and others.
Coverage details can vary depending on the specific plan and policy. Our team can help patients navigate insurance-related questions and determine available options for care.
Through this, we’re able to better realize Dr. Kay’s goal of providing more and better care to those in need.
Accessible Care
Dr. Kay is proud of the legacy of our mobile care. Through this, he and the rest of the team here strive to reduce barriers that can prevent individuals from receiving timely treatment.
That said, Dr. Kay has also overseen our wound care centers in select areas. Each of these provides the same caliber of care as is available through our mobile care.
Whether a patient requires ongoing wound management, evaluation of a chronic wound, or specialized care tailored to age-related health concerns, our goal is to provide compassionate, comprehensive support.
By combining advanced wound care expertise with a patient-focused perspective, Dr. Kay has empowered West Coast Wound & Skin Care to help patients pursue better healing outcomes while supporting their overall health and well-being.
A Foundation of Advanced Wound Care
Dr. Kay’s dual background in geriatric medicine and advanced wound care enables him to evaluate these overlapping challenges while creating treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
Following Dr. Kay’s example, we provide wound care services for individuals experiencing wounds that have failed to heal properly or continue to recur despite previous treatment.
As a geriatric specialist, Dr. Kay is particularly skilled at caring for older adults who require a broader clinical perspective. Many wounds develop or worsen because of conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, or limited mobility. By addressing these factors alongside direct wound treatment, our team works to promote more effective healing outcomes.
Older adults often face additional barriers to healing, including decreased circulation, reduced mobility, nutritional deficiencies, medication-related complications, and chronic illnesses that affect tissue repair.
Dr. Kay’s osteopathic training reinforces the belief that the body functions as an integrated system. When a wound does not heal, the issue may involve far more than damaged skin.
Blood flow deficiencies, uncontrolled blood sugar levels, poor nutrition, cardiovascular disease, or medication interactions may all contribute to delayed healing. Identifying and managing these contributing factors helps create a more complete treatment strategy.
Whole-Person Care for Complex Wounds
Dr. Kay’s approach, and subsequently, our approach, has always centered on treating the patient rather than simply treating a wound. Chronic wounds often reflect broader health concerns that require medical attention.
For example, a diabetic foot ulcer may indicate challenges with glucose control, while a venous ulcer may point to circulation issues that need ongoing management.
While West Coast Wound and Skin Care has grown, treatment plans are still created using Dr. Kay’s methods. For example, by evaluating each patient’s overall health profile, our clinicians can identify obstacles that may be slowing recovery.
Our mobile wound care services help bridge this gap by bringing professional wound management directly to qualifying patients in their homes and care settings.
Whether care is delivered in one of our clinics or through our mobile services, patients receive the same commitment to quality, consistency, and compassionate support.
Through this, Dr. Kay has built a practice that brings specialized care directly to patients while coordinating treatment plans that support healing from multiple angles.
“Every patient deserves individualized care that looks beyond the wound itself. My goal is to help restore mobility, independence, and quality of life by addressing the medical factors that influence healing. I am committed to working alongside each patient with compassion, respect, and a focus on achieving meaningful improvements in their health.”
