Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Education

Dr. David Kay earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Western University of Health Sciences – College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. He attended medical school from 2010 through 2014, receiving extensive education in both traditional medical sciences and the osteopathic philosophy of treating the whole person.

The osteopathic approach emphasizes the interconnected nature of body systems and encourages physicians to evaluate how overall health influences individual conditions. This philosophy aligns closely with modern wound care, where successful treatment often depends on addressing systemic factors that affect tissue healing.

Family Medicine Residency Training

Following medical school, Dr. Kay completed his Family Medicine Residency at Dignity Health Northridge Hospital Medical Center from 2014 through 2017.

Family medicine residency provides broad clinical exposure across multiple specialties and patient populations. This training taught Dr. Kay to recognize how chronic diseases, medications, cardiovascular conditions, endocrine disorders, and lifestyle factors influence patient outcomes.

For wound care patients, this diverse clinical background offers significant advantages. Chronic wounds frequently involve complex medical histories that require careful evaluation and coordination. Dr. Kay’s residency training helps him assess these interconnected factors while developing individualized treatment strategies.

As a geriatric specialist, Dr. Kay is particularly skilled at caring for older adults who require a broader clinical perspective. Many wounds develop or worsen because of conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, or limited mobility. By addressing these factors alongside direct wound treatment, our team works to promote more effective healing outcomes.

Older adults often face additional barriers to healing, including decreased circulation, reduced mobility, nutritional deficiencies, medication-related complications, and chronic illnesses that affect tissue repair.

Dr. Kay’s osteopathic training reinforces the belief that the body functions as an integrated system. When a wound does not heal, the issue may involve far more than damaged skin.
